Legana Christian Church commenced as Legana Family Church on Sunday February 22nd 1987 with 17 people after the baptism in the Holy Spirit had become a divisive issue within the independent Legana Christian Centre. Those who remained, after those with a strongly cessation conviction had left, reformed our church as a particularly Pentecostal church – Legana. People looking for a spiritual home which welcomed the charismatic gifts soon joined us. After the founding pastor, Graeme Austin, retired, recent Commonwealth Bible College graduate, Ps. Philip Morgan was invited to shepherd the now four-year-old church. Nearly five years later, Pastor Morgan was called to pastor Devonport Assembly of God. On Sunday September 17th 1995, Pastor Andrew Corbett was elected as the new Senior Pastor of Legana Assembly of God. The following Sunday, September 24th, Pastor Andrew Corbett officially commenced as our pastor. (At this time Andrew and Kim had two children and went on to have another two.) After the Australian Assemblies of God changed its name to Australian Christian Churches the name of our church was changed to Legana Christian Church accordingly. In 2023, Legana Christian Church affiliated with the Crosslink Christian Network.
Pastor Andrew Corbett, together with his wife Kim, who is also an ordained pastor, in consultation with the church’s Governance Board, the Council of Elders, the Deacons and Ministry Team Leaders, announced on Sunday December 3rd, that his failing health now precluded him from continuing as Senior Pastor beyond September 22nd 2024, which would mark his 29th anniversary as Senior pastor. As such, we are now inviting applications for the impending vacancy of the role of Senior Pastor of Legana Christian Church from those who may sense a call from God which corresponds to their spiritual giftedness and historic pastoral experience. It is hoped that this position can be filled early in 2024. Expressions of interests are now invited from those who feel qualified and called.
