THE ONE WHO CALLS

Does life hold deep meaning and purpose for you? For some, their quest for purpose, meaning or significance in life is punctuated by heart-ache, confusion, and despair. For others, it involves a desperate attempt to ‘make something of themselves’ in order to feel like their life amounts something, at least in the eyes of others.

2. Note 2Corinthians 5:17. What aspect of this verse explains why things change so dramatically for the unbeliever who becomes a Christian?

Once a person accepts Christ into their life, their quest for significance is over. No longer need a person feel insignificant when they become a Christian. And this is entirely because of the One who has called them into salvation. To appreciate who we are in Christ, let’s examine what the Scriptures reveal about Christ.

WHO CHRIST WAS

(Christ’s Pre-incarnate State)

3. What does Micah 5:2 reveal about Christ?

_____________________________________________________

"Jesus" was Christ’s earthly name. The title "Christ" means A _ _ _ _ _ _ d One. The most common title for Christ in the Bible is L _ _ _ .

4. What does Hebrews 13:8 reveal about Christ?

_____________________________________________________

Christ was very active in the Old Testament. With so much idolatry and polytheism (the worship of many gods) God the Father seems to chosen to progressively reveal the nature of the Godhead (Trinity). But some Old Testament writers suspected that God had a co-equal, co-eternal Son.

5. What do these Scriptures reveal about what some Old Testament writers may have suspected?

Prov. 30:4

Dan 3:25

Psalm 2:7

6. Some people teach that Christ became God’s Son when He was born of the Virgin Mary, but how does John 3:16 show that this is not the case?

CHRIST’S PRE-INCARNATE GLORY

The prophet Isaiah foretold that Christ would come in human form and that there would be nothing physically attractive about Him (Isa. 53:2). This was not the case with Christ’s pre-incarnate state (before coming in human form).

7. Jesus said that Isaiah saw Him in His glory (Jn 12:41). The only possible occurrence of this happened in Isaiah 6:1-5. Note how Isaiah responded when he saw the glorified pre-incarnate Christ.

8. Daniel saw Christ. Note how he described Him in Daniel 7:9, 13 (compare with Revelation 1:13-15)

CHRIST IN US

No wonder the Christian has found significance! Christ lives in us, and we are new creations (2Corinthians 5:17). We are a people on a mission (2Corinthians 5:18). We know our purpose is to serve God (Eph. 2:10). We are confident that everything works together for our good, because we love God (Romans 8:28). We know that Christ in us is greater than the Devil who opposes us in the world (1John 4:4). We know that our old nature has passed away, and that it is Christ who lives in us and transforms us (Galatians 2:20). The Christ who lives in us is all-glorious, all-powerful, and all-conquering!

Amen.
