WHO YOU REPRESENT

Knowing who you are in Christ starts with a knowledge of who Christ is. We have seen that he is the eternal, all-powerful, all loving, almighty God the Son. He laid aside His glory and became man. He ascended into Heaven as the God-Man (1Tim. 2:5), and ever lives to make intercession for His people (Heb. 7:25) as the prophet Isaiah foretold (Isa. 53:12). He ministered for only 3½ years and has entrusted His entire ongoing mission to you and me.

1. What aspect of Matthew 28:20 should give us tremendous confidence about taking on the mission Christ has given us?

2. According to 2Corinthians 5:20, how much authority have we got in carrying out our mission for Christ?

An ambassador is invested with the same authority as the one he represents.

3. What does Romans 8:17 say about our relationship to Christ?

4. Based on Romans 8:37 should the Christian feel inferior to others?

5. What did people think about Peter and John and what caused them to wonder about them? (Acts 4:13)

6. Do you have to be educated, or upper class for God to use you? (1Cor. 1:26-27)

Again we come back to Romans 8:1, where it says that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ. Knowing that when you became a Christian, and had your past guilt wiped away, and that God the Father no longer looks at you as a sinner - but as a co-equal, joint heir, triumphant, more-than-a-conqueror, Spirit led, son or daughter of God, should cause us to live differently! It doesn’t matter whether you think you are worthy of God’s love and support, because you are in Christ! We can therefore be bold for God when we talk with others, or do something for God.

YOUR GIFTS & CALLINGS

The person who is in Christ is given gifts and a calling (ministry) to fulfil as His ambassador. Knowing who you are in Christ means that you can be confident about those gifts, abilities, or ministry that God has given you.

7. You may feel that your gifts or ministry is not that important or significant. How does 1Corinthians 12:22-25 encourage those who may feel like this?

Someone could also be tempted to think that God doesn’t see or notice their secret service for Him. Many people quietly serve God without much fanfare or public acclamation. For those people who have been "faithful" there awaits a special reward (Matt. 25:21; 1Cor. 4:2; 1Tim. 1:12; Rev. 14:12; 17:14).

8. What awaits those who faithfully serve the Lord? (1Cor. 9:25; 2Timothy 4:8; James 1:12; 1Peter 5:4; Rev. 2:10)

_____________________________________________________

Others may feel that serving God is just for a select few. But this is not the case. He has given us each spiritual gifts and abilities that we are to employ for Him and His Kingdom. Whenever we give to God of our time or money, He always blesses us back with more (2Cor. 9:6).

Amen.
